How many beads does this mala have?
This mala has 108 beads plus a guru (sumeru) bead — the traditional count used for japa (mantra repetition). The 108 beads make one complete round of chanting, and the larger guru bead marks the start and end.
How do I use a mala for japa meditation?
Hold the mala in your right hand and move from bead to bead with your thumb, repeating your mantra (such as 'Om') once per bead. One full circuit of the 108 beads is a complete round. At the guru bead, pause and turn the mala around rather than crossing it, then continue.

Place it on a selenite plate overnight, leave it in moonlight, or pass it through sage or palo santo smoke about once a week. Avoid water-based cleansing, and store it in a clean pouch when not in use.
