Protection from Jealousy & Nazar: One of the most direct protective stones against jealousy, ill-will, and the effects of nazar (evil eye). It does not just deflect — it actively removes negative projections aimed at you.

Truth-Revealing: Black Obsidian’s mirror-like surface is reflected in its energy — it shows you what is real, including what you have been avoiding. Useful for anyone who needs clarity on a difficult situation or relationship.

Deep Grounding: Anchors the Root Chakra firmly, helping those who feel manipulated, unmoored, or constantly pulled into others’ dramas to find and hold their own ground.

Black Obsidian is volcanic glass — formed when molten lava is expelled from a volcano and cools so rapidly that its molecules do not have time to arrange into a crystalline structure. This makes it technically amorphous (non-crystalline), not a mineral in the strict scientific sense, but one of the most historically used protective stones in human history.

Ancient Mesoamerican civilisations crafted it into surgical blades, weapons, and ritual mirrors for truth-seeing and divination. The Aztecs called it ‘iztli’ and used it to make the obsidian mirror of Tezcatlipoca — the god of night, shadows, and seeing things as they truly are. In multiple ancient traditions, obsidian mirrors were used by seers to look beneath the surface of appearances.

In crystal healing, Black Obsidian carries this same quality: it is the stone that shows what is real. It removes illusion, cuts through flattery and manipulation, and draws out what has been suppressed or hidden — including in oneself. Its energy is not gentle, and it is best used with clear intention and followed by grounding practices.

For protection from jealousy and nazar: wear on the left hand daily.

For cord cutting: use during a deliberate release ritual (see Ritual section). Hold with clear intention, name what you are releasing, and allow the process to complete. Rest afterward.

For truth and clarity: wear or hold when you need to see a situation clearly — a relationship, a decision, a pattern you keep repeating.

Note: Black Obsidian is one of the more intense working stones. During emotionally vulnerable phases — grief, acute anxiety, major upheaval — it may be too activating. In these cases, use Smoky Quartz first to stabilise, then return to Obsidian when ready.

Black Obsidian is volcanic glass with a Mohs hardness of 5–5.5. Handle with care — avoid dropping or striking against hard surfaces, as glass can chip or crack. Clean gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid prolonged water exposure and harsh chemicals.

Energetic cleansing (recommended after each cord-cutting or release practice, and monthly for daily wear):
- Moonlight: overnight under a full moon
- Selenite plate: 4–6 hours
- Smoke cleansing (sage or palo santo): brief pass through smoke
- Running water: brief rinse (avoid prolonged soaking)

Store separately from harder stones to prevent chipping.
