Carnelian is a warm orange-to-red variety of chalcedony — a microcrystalline form of quartz — coloured by iron oxide within the stone. It forms in volcanic and sedimentary rock and is found in India, Brazil, Uruguay and Madagascar, in shades from soft amber to deep rust-red.

Keep it away from water, and cleanse with sage smoke, sound or moonlight when it feels heavy.

Keep Carnelian away from water — remove it before swimming, bathing or washing hands, as moisture can weaken it over time.

Recharge: Rest it on a Selenite plate overnight, leave it under moonlight, or pass it through sage or palo santo smoke.
