How do I use a mala for japa meditation?
Hold the mala in your right hand and move from bead to bead with your thumb, repeating your mantra (such as 'Om Namah Shivaya') once per bead. One full circuit of the 108 beads is a complete round. At the guru bead, pause and turn the mala rather than crossing it, then continue.
