Emerald (Panna) is the Vedic gemstone of Mercury (Budh) and one of the nine Navaratna stones. Emerald is the green variety of beryl (a beryllium-aluminium silicate), its lush colour drawn from traces of chromium and vanadium. It grows as six-sided crystals in rock veins and is found in Colombia, Zambia, Brazil and Afghanistan.
