Lapis Lazuli is a deep midnight-blue metamorphic rock, coloured by the mineral lazurite and flecked with gold — those glints are natural pyrite, alongside white streaks of calcite. It has been mined for over 6,000 years and is found chiefly in Afghanistan, as well as Chile and Russia.
