Strengthens Intuition: The Moon governs instinct and inner knowing. Moonstone makes it easier to hear what you already sense — particularly useful during decisions or transitions where certainty is unavailable.

Anxiety & Mental Noise: For those who experience persistent background anxiety, overthinking, or a mind that is difficult to settle, Moonstone works by gradually calming the quality of mental experience rather than suppressing it.

Moonstone is a feldspar mineral — specifically a variety of orthoclase — known for its distinctive optical phenomenon called adularescence: a floating blue or white light that appears to move within the stone as light strikes it at different angles. This is not a surface treatment or applied finish; it is created by the internal structure of the stone itself, as light scatters between microscopically thin layers of alternating feldspar minerals. Each Moonstone shows a unique display.

In Vedic astrology, Moonstone is the primary Chandra ratna — the stone prescribed to strengthen the Moon in the birth chart. The Moon (Chandra) governs the mind (manas), emotional intelligence, sleep, memory, intuition, and one’s capacity to experience and process life without being overwhelmed by it. When Chandra is weak or afflicted in a chart, the consistent patterns include anxiety, emotional reactivity, poor sleep, difficulty with intuitive decision-making, and mental restlessness.

Moonstone is traditionally the most accessible and universally appropriate Chandra ratna. Unlike Pearl (Moti), which is the primary formal Jyotish prescription, Moonstone is widely used for general Chandra strengthening without the stricter protocols of the Navaratna tradition. Many Jyotish practitioners recommend it as a starting point before committing to the formal pearl protocol.

Jyotish protocol: Wear on the ring finger of the right hand. Activate on a Monday morning after sunrise (see Ritual section). Purify in raw milk and water overnight before first wear.

For daily use: wear when emotional steadiness is needed — during high-stress periods, anxious phases, major transitions, or whenever the mind feels harder to settle than usual.

For sleep: wear to bed or place the ring on your bedside table on nights when the mind resists rest.

Full moon: Moonstone recharges strongly under a full moon. Place it on a windowsill or outdoors overnight each month — this is both an energetic cleanse and a recharge.

Clean gently with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals, ultrasonic cleaners, and prolonged water exposure. Moonstone is a moderately hard stone (Mohs 6–6.5) — handle with care and store separately from harder gemstones.

Energetic cleansing: Full moonlight is the ideal method — place the ring on a windowsill or outdoors overnight each month. Alternatively, cleanse on a selenite plate for 4–6 hours. Running water (brief rinse) works as well.

Avoid leaving in direct sunlight for extended periods.
